Dominic Breazeale says Anthony Joshua will find it “easier” to negotiate an undisputed title fight if he becomes the new WBC heavyweight champion.

The Californian challenges WBC champion Wilder at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in the early hours of Sunday morning, live on Sky Sports, just under three years since his stoppage loss to Joshua in an IBF title fight at The O2 in June 2016.

Joshua and Wilder are yet to agree terms for a fight, with all the world titles at stake, but Breazeale believes Britain’s unified champion should be able to agree terms with him, if he rips away the WBC belt.

“This is my big bridge to get to my rematch with Joshua,” Breazeale told Sky Sports.

“I don’t care what anyone says, he’s holding the majority of the belts, he’s fought the bigger, better calibre guys and he’s the guy on top right now.

“When I get the WBC title, I can only hope and pray that we get a rematch.

“I think the fight between me and AJ is a little bit easier to make, only because of the fact that I’ve got no problems putting the business, trading stuff on the side, and kind of making it squared away, whereas Wilder thinks he’s on his high horse. He thinks he’s the heavyweight champion of the world when he’s just one of the heavyweight champions.

“Sometimes it’s bigger than just the belts, it’s what the fans want to see. Sometimes you’ve got to give the fans what they want to see.”

Breazeale has responded with three stoppage wins since his defeat to Joshua and new trainer Virgil Hunter has overseen the 33-year-old’s preparations.

With Joshua only a few weeks away from his US debut against Andy Ruiz Jr at Madison Square Garden, live on Sky Sports Box Office, Breazeale wants his former opponent to return to the States for a second fight.

“People want to see the rematch now, but I think it becomes even bigger,” he said.

“If it lands up on US soil as well, maybe a top calibre casino in Las Vegas.

“A rematch between myself and Joshua becomes one of the biggest heavyweight fights.”
