Green Goblin, Sandman and Lizard: Fans react to latest Spider-Man trailer

The latest trailer for the new Spider-Man film has finally arrived – with fans getting excited at the inclusion of some of the villains from previous incarnations of the franchise.
No Way Home will be Tom Holland’s third film in the series, and this time sees him breaking Marvel‘s much-trailed multiverse, in an effort to retain his private life again after Peter Parker was outed as the hero in the previous movie, Far From Home.
Marvel shares the rights to Spider-Man with Sony, which has now made three modern Spider-Man series that are part of the Disney-owned sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the character has appeared in a number of Avengers movies.
The new trailer features the already revealed Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), who fought the first modern Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, in the original modern trilogy, but in the new clip he does not recognise Tom Holland as his nemesis, saying: “You’re not Peter.”
Also in the trailer, we see a glimpse of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, also from the original trilogy, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro from Andrew Garfield’s iteration of the hero.
Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman also makes an appearance, as does Rhys Ifans in the role of Lizard.
However, the trailer was still missing two people – Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire themselves.
Thought their appearance has never been confirmed by Marvel and Sony, there is strong speculation that the previous Spider-Man actors will make an appearance, with swirling rumours, alleged set photo leaks and of course the awkward silences when asked if they are in the film.
Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as Doctor Strange, who seemingly faces-off with Spider-Man after the pair break the multiverse, with Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned also appearing once more.
Marvel’s multiverse storyline features heavily in the franchise’s latest phase, and was explained and trailed in depth in the Disney+ series Loki.
The fourth phase of the MCU, which focuses on events following Avengers: Endgame, is well under way, with films including Black Widow, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and Eternals.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will also now get its release two days earlier than previously announced, with it opening exclusively in cinemas on 15 December.
