Missing woman found after writing ‘SOS’ in the ground

Written by on 16/10/2019

A missing woman was found after four days when she managed to write an SOS message on someone’s driveway.

Deborah Pilgrim, 55, went missing while camping in the Sedan area of South Australia, and had last been seen on Sunday evening about 1km (0.7miles) from their site.

A search was launched for her, but police were increasingly worried with no sign of her for three days.

Police used a helicopter, state tactical response groups, mounted operations, drones, and were helped by volunteers as they tried to find her.

But in the end, the Surrey Downs woman was tracked down as a member of the public remotely logged into his CCTV for a bush block he owned in the area.

The man was aware of the search for her, and spotted SOS drawn into the driveway of his property, a note which had not been there the day before.

He told police, who found her on a neighbouring property where she had managed to access water.

She was taken to hospital as a precaution but police said she appears to be in good health.

Jackie James, Mrs Pilgrim’s cousin, wrote on Facebook: “This is the absolute best news! Thanks so much to everyone involved in the search for our cousin.”
