The UK has now administered 34,667,904 first vaccine doses and 15,630,007 second doses, bringing the total to 50,297,911.

The news comes with less than two weeks to go before step three of England’s lockdown-lifting roadmap comes into force.

May 17 will see the opening of indoor seating at pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Large indoor performances and sporting events with a capacity of 1,000 people will also be allowed as well as outdoor large performances and sporting events with up to 4,000 people or half full, whichever is lower.

Weddings, wedding receptions, wakes, funerals and christenings will also be allowed to take place with 30 people.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also said there is a “good chance” the one-metre rule for social distancing can be ditched next month.

And British holidaymakers could be allowed to travel within Europe within weeks, with the “green list” of countries from where people won’t have to quarantine on their return expected to be released this week.
