Squid Game will return for a second series, according to its creator and director.

The dystopian South Korean show was a huge hit – becoming streaming platform Netflix‘s largest ever launch.

Most shows in South Korea run for only a single series, but Hwang Dong-hyuk has said that due to the reaction, “I almost feel like you leave us no choice”.

Mr Hwang said: “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season.

“It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.

“So I will promise you this, Gi-hun will be back and he’ll do something for the world.”

It premiered in September and was part of efforts by Netflix to show more international programmes.

Since the unexpected success, those who starred in the show have gained huge celebrity.

Jung Ho-yeon, a model and actor, was used to travelling, but when she landed in LA this time a border guard asked for her signature.

Lee Jung-jae, who plays lead character Seong Gi-Hun, has been working in South Korea for 25 years.

Now he is being recognised on the streets of the US.

He said: “That’s amazing, right? People just go around and say hello.

“So I really don’t know how to respond to all the love. It’s so great to be able to meet the fans who have loved and watched the show so much.”
